Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb lean ground beef 90/10 or 93/7
  • Half a large onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder optional
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 slices cheddar or provolone cheese
  • 6 oz shredded cheddar or jack cheese
  • 24 soft dinner rolls
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions
 

  • Heat the oven to 350°F.
  • Cook the onion in a skillet until soft.
  • Add the beef and break it into small pieces as it browns.
  • Season and cook until no pink remains.
  • Drain the fat so the rolls stay dry.
  • Mix in mayonnaise while the beef is warm.
  • Slice the rolls in one sheet and place the bottom half in a baking dish.
  • Add sliced cheese to form a barrier layer.
  • Spread the beef on top in an even layer.
  • Add the shredded cheese over the beef.
  • Place the top rolls on.
  • Brush with melted butter and add sesame seeds.
  • Bake until golden and the cheese melts through.
  • Rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

● The cheese barrier keeps the bread from getting soggy
● Add pickles or onions under the top cheese for extra flavor
● Let the sliders rest so the layers set
● Use a serrated knife for clean slices
● Higher fat beef must be drained well
