Ingredients

  • 12 oz. white fish fillets cod, haddock, pollock, 1/2– to 3/4-inch thick, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper ideally white pepper
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp. paprika or dried parsley, Italian seasoning blend, or other preferred seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • While the air fryer is preheating, season the fish fillets with salt and pepper.
  • Prepare three shallow bowls:
  • In the first bowl, place the flour.
  • In the second bowl, lightly beat the egg.
  • In the third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and paprika (or other preferred seasonings).
  • Coat the fish fillets one at a time:
  • First, dredge each fillet in flour, shaking off excess.
  • Next, dip in the beaten egg, letting the excess drip off.
  • Finally, coat in the panko mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
  • Arrange the coated fish fillets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  • Air fry the fish at 400°F for 8–10 minutes, or until the coating is crispy and the fish is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 145°F or 63°C).
  • Serve with lemon wedges, your favorite dipping sauce, and a side of fries or salad.

Notes

  • For best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Cook the fish in batches if necessary.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for the crispiest texture, but regular breadcrumbs can be used as a substitute.
  • Feel free to experiment with seasoning the panko with garlic powder, onion powder, or even an Italian herb blend for extra flavor.
  • If using thicker fillets, cook for a little longer, checking at 8-minute intervals to avoid burning the coating.
